Day 51 – CRFA Trade Show
For the past 10 plus years I have been working as an engineer consultant mostly in the manufacturing field....a bit of stretch from the hospitality industry. So what better way to dive into this new industry other than attending the Canadian Restaurant and Food Association trade shown in Toronto. I had no idea what to expect, but thought there was bound to be good information, competitors and networking opportunities. To my delight the show exhibited all three of these aspects and there was lots to see. Unfortunately I missed out on some of the great seminars being given on financials and profit saving ideas for restaurateurs. But I was able to see the myriad of indirect and direct competitors to BEVINCO and the “systems” to control liquor and beer that they offer. Reviewing these systems gave me great insight on how to hone my sales presentation to compare and combat against these types of competitors. Additionally I was able to make contact with other service providers such as restaurant start up consultants and marketing firms that could become great industry contacts in the future. Oh, and if you are ever looking for an unlimited free sampling of foods, deserts, new cocktails, shooters and beer....this is the trade show for you.
